Application Process
All graduating seniors of the Rim of the World Unified School District in Lake Arrowhead, California, will have the opportunity and will be encouraged to apply for a community scholarship. Equal weight is given to those students planning to attend a 2- or 4-year college, trade school or other specialized training.
Applications are made available with a return deadline during the month of March and are identified by number only. Rim of the World High School College and Career Center maintains the list of assigned numbers until the Council has decided the awards.
Each student is personally interviewed for 15 minutes by a panel of three community volunteers who rate on a scale of 1-10 in the areas of Motivation, Goals, Direction, Outside Activities, Interests and Community Involvement. No member of the Council is on the interview team. All applications are then sent to four readers, who again rate each application on the 1-10 scale.
After rating, the applications return to the Council for final review and totaling. The numbers of the successful applications are returned to Rim of the World High School College and Career Center to match award numbers with the student’s name. Awards are made at the annual Awards Night at Rim of the World High School.
Funds are sent to the school of registration in the student’s name to be applied to tuition, books and special fees. Funds unused at the end of 24 months become the property of the Council’s General Fund.
